Blanching Green Beans for Tender-crisp Perfection
Preparation
Start by washing and trimming the green beans. Rinse them under cool running water in a colander and snap off the stems. Simultaneously, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
Blanching
Once the water is boiling, carefully add the trimmed beans to the pot. Let them cook for about 2 minutes, or until they are crisp-tender and their color turns a vibrant green.
Chilling
Immediately after blanching, transfer the beans from the boiling water to a bowl of ice water. This step halts the cooking process. Keep the beans in the ice water for at least 15 seconds, ensuring they cool down completely.
Draining and Drying
Drain the chilled beans and lay them out on a kitchen towel or paper towels to dry. Once they're dry, your green beans are perfectly blanched and ready to be enjoyed in your favorite dishes.
